Dr. Michael G. Dear BSc. BVetMed, MRCVS

Vision The current practice, Terra Nova Village Veterinarian was established in 1999 and maintains Dr. Dear’s early interest in cardiology and soft tissue surgery. The theme “Caring – One Life at a Time” is the blend of caring for pets and people in a balanced health care program using collaborative medical and business disciplines.

Education

Dr. Dear trained at the Universities of London and Cambridge in England and Baylor, Purdue and Pennsylvania in the United States.

Career

His early background involved teaching and clinical research in cardiology, microsurgery and transplantation immunology at the Royal Veterinary College, Guy’s Hospital Medical School and subsequently at the University of Pennsylvania. Clinical work included treating pets belonging to the Royal Family. Moving to Vancouver, BC, meant a change to establishing a home, a family, a small animal practice and a professional association involvement.

Family & Recreation

Dr. Dear and his wife, Tonny, have four sons plus one of the canine variety, “Archie”. Volunteer and community activities have centred on animal welfare through the Vancouver BCSPCA board for 16 years and short term Christian mission projects on 5 continents over 15 years.

Alison manages the administration, especially client communications and staffing. She is also our certified groomer and having her with us for several years means that she knows most things about things. The little wire-haired daxy shadowing her is Alfie.

Arista's smiling face is the one that greets you at reception. She is a VOA (Veterinary Office Assistant) and her specialities are clients and referrals. When she is not smiling at you she is smiling at her Doberman Cassius.

Courtney is a people person with an excellent background in people skills, reception and management. If her infectious enthusiasm hasn't arrested you at the reception desk, she will be found supervising the promotion and marketing section i.e. telephoning to see how your pets are and getting the monthly letter out to you. Her fish are her buddies.
