We offer COLLABORATIVE MEDICINE, that is we provide full services (medical, dental, surgical, etc) for community needs and are linked to referral centers for special needs (eg. ultrasound, CAT scan, MRI, etc).

Medical – As exemplified in the protocol/ algorithm of a skin disease case.

  1. Problem: pruritus (itchy skin)
  2. Diagnosis: History (subjective)
  3. Examination: (objective)
  4. Assesment: tentative
  5. Plan:
    1. Trichogram (for growth phase, parasites, etc)
    2. Woods light (fungal)
    3. Acetate tape (yeast, bacteria, parasites)
    4. Skin scrape
    5. Confirmation – fecal analysis
    6. Fungassy
    7. Culture & sensitivity
    8. Blood panel
  6. Conclusion – Ectoparasites/ fungal/ bacterial/ other
  7. Therapy:
    1. Antibiotics (bacteria)
    2. Food trial (food allergies)
    3. Ivermectin (“scabies”)
    4. Advantage/ Revolution (fleas, etc)
    5. Shampoo (fungi)
  8. Response at 3-4 weeks improved/ worse/ same
  9. Conclusion: Bacteria/ Ectoparasites/ Food allergy/ Fungal/ other
  10. Plan: More tests (eg. Biopsy, hormone tests, serum allergy tests)
  11. Assessment: New therapy = resolution or control

Surgical – As exemplified in the case of a spay (Ovariohysterectomy)

  1. Physical examination of the patient – hospitalization
  2. Blood panel/ Urinalysis
  3. Premedication with a painkiller/ sedative/ antiemetic.
  4. Induction of general anesthesia (usually done by intravenous injection)
  5. Intubation with an endotracheal tube
  6. Maintenance of general anesthesia using Isoflurane
  7. Surgical preparation of the skin of the abdomen
  8. Monitoring ECG, oxygen tensions, respiratory and heart rates and body temperatures.
  9. Fluid therapy (either IV or SC) if necessary
  10. Surgery – removal of both ovaries and the uterus.
  11. Pain control
  12. Post-operative monitoring
  13. Discharge instructions
